Title: HX 50 parameters
Post by asdf on Jul 25th, 2009 at 8:33am
I am having problems with the software download portion of my modem installation.  I have contact bentley walker two days ago and am still waiting on an email.  I was hoping someone could help with my parameters.

The error I get is incorrect parameter and then it ask me if i would like to reset the parameters.

thanks in advance

I've just phoned Bentley Walker about your message above.  They spoke to someone yesterday about this same problem but during my phone call we were unable to verify if was you or someone else.   Using your name/email address they should be able to find your site ID.

It is probable that the "incorrect parameter" message refers to some parameter, such as management IP address, that needs to be entered onto the modem configuration screen.   Check all parameters very carefully.   You have presumably entered the tuning and symbol rate parameters correctly if you have pointed the dish and successfully acquired the satellite carrier.

There is a command rf that will reset to factory default but if you do this you will have to renter all the parameters.

Best regards, Eric.

That was me.  I have triple checked the parameters that they gave me and they are corrected.  I have also tried to change them to try new setting but I cannot change them.  I click on the save settings and when i go back the setting have not been changed.

thanks

You say "they are corrected".  If there is a difference between your screen and the configuration form, then that is almost certainly the cause of the problem.  (*)

Since the parameters have got locked I guess you will need to use the rf command.  That will reset to factory default and you will need to  input all the parameters again.  Check carefully before clicking "Save".

I don't recall how to enter the rf command.  Ask BW, if you need help on this. Tech support phone number is +44 2392 311 118

(*) If the entered parameters are the same as on your configuration sheet, then we need to check that the configuration sheet you were sent contains the correct parameters.  Ask BW to check this.

Best regards, Eric.

I have done the factory reset and now I can reach the waiting for first heartbeat message and then the modem resets itself its self 3 times.  After the resest I get "wrong parameters: ingnoring the parameters."

what should i try now.

thanks in advance

It sounds like some discrepancy between the HX hub and the configuration settings on your modem.   Sorry, but no further ideas from me for the moment.  Please contact BW.

You are welcome to send me:
Copy of the configuration sheet (pdf sent to you by BW).
Screen image dump (alt+prtscn, paste into Paint, save as file) of the configuration page.
Screen image dump (alt+prtscn, paste into Paint, save as file) of the error message.

Send to me at eric@satsig.net
I will forward and discuss with BW as I am interested to resolve this also, in case it happens again to someone else.

Best regards, Eric.

I understand the problem has been happily resolved.

I hope the words below explain the solution.

The symptoms included a jumping of the signal level between two values:  30 or 84.

The problem was software profile related and not due the weather, dish pointing or LNB cable.

A profile change was made at the hub and applied remotely to the modem, plus a resync which stabilised the modem receive.

Best regards, Eric.
