I wonder if there is an "Approved" router for Tooway connection ? 4 port + Wireless /NAT/Firewall type ?

All the blurb says that one can connect a router but I see no recommended list anywhere.

If no official recommendation, what are others using ?

You can use any "cable" router ! We use Linksys or Netgear but any router will do the job.

We use the Belkin N1 Vision.  Very easy to set up.  No installation disks to worry about.  Can be set up in all of 5 minutes.  Works seamlessly with XP and Vista simultaneously.   Also gives you a Guest access so you don't have to give out your own WEP key to houseguests.

Just make sure you get the Cable version.  This applies to all routers for Tooway useage as ADSL won't work, it has to be DSL only.  Check out the Belkin website for further info.

I have bought a Netgear WGR614UK Wireless 54G Cable Router from Amazon to use with my Tooway system but cannot seem to get it to work!

Are there any setting I need to change on the router? I am connecting to the router from my laptop with a good signal but it appears to be unable to connect to the internet.

Please Help!  

You will probably have to reset your Tooway Modem to reset the IP address.  Turn off modem and router, connect router and try again.  You may also have to reboot laptop for same reason.

Gave up on Netgear routers and switched to Belkin as so much easier to set up.  No install disks needed.  Can install the Belkin N1 in all of 5 mins start to finish.

Let us know how you get on.

Tried that as well unfortunately. Started with everything off, then turned on the Modem, then the Netgear and then my Laptop. Still no joy!

Any other ideas?

Are you running XP or Vista - I notice on the Netgear website there is a new driver for Vista.

I have tried the set up wizard and the Router thinks that the Tooway system has a static IP and is asking for the IP Address, Subnet mask and Gateway IP Address.

I was under the impression that the Tooway system used a Dynamic IP address?

What is meant by a "cable" router? If I do not make a mistake, the DOCSIS functionality is provided with the supplied modem.
Anyway I am trying to use a Mikrotik router and for some obscure reasons I do not manage to get connected.
Has somebody els had the same problem?

The last Netgear router I set up at home took me over 4 hours of hair pulling and nail biting which is why in the end I set it up using the manual setup instructions and decided never to purchase a Netgear again.

I know I harp on, but the Belkin N1 Vision router is so much easier and I have never come across problems like this - it's just a case of plug in power, connect to Tooway modem, configure security and off you go.  5 Minutes and all done.

Try following the instructions for Manual Setup - but be prepared for a long evening ...  it's not esay but take it methodically and you should get there.

You can use ANY (cable) router WITHOUT changing any settings ! Never use the setup CD. Any router will connect and work within 1 minute. As soon it is connected you can change settings if you want any time later. All together not more than a few minutes work, simpel and easy.

We use a D-Link DIR 655.
Easy install, once I discovered it needed a cross-over network cable!
