Title: Signal level variations at Ka band
Post by Forum Admin on Oct 6th, 2009 at 8:12pm
Here is a monthly signal level graph from El Molino for a Tooway VSAT site showing how the remote site transmit power (upstream blue line in upper graph) at 29 GHz varies with the weather while the receive quality at the hub (brown line in lower graph) remains virtually constant at the Skylogic teleport hub in Italy.

This demonstrates how successful uplink power control can dynamically compensate for moisture, rain fading, tracking errors and satellite wobble etc.  The normal output power from the remote modem is around - 11.7 dBmV and peaks up to 0 dBmV during the most adverse conditions.

The red and green lines show the downstream signal level and the downstream signal C/N measured at the remote site.

Thanks to El Molino Systems S.L. https://www.europe-satellite.com for the image. (Note Site ID obscured)

Best regards, Eric.
