. Dear Sir ,
We would like to track thaicom 5 (78.5 E) satellite for Uplink transmission . We are using 3.8 mtr prodelin Dish for tracking. And Using C-Band Uplink transmission . So coud ples give the details of the frequency and all to track the for Thaicom 5 .Can we use Ku band frequency to track the dish and later we can put BUC for uplink transmission . Our Location is Kabul, Afgahnistan. Thanks in advance techtest |

Tracking:
You will be pleased to know that Thaicom 5 is in a stable, controlled inclination, geostationary orbit at 78.5 east orbit longitude. On 21st Jan 2010, it's inclination was 0.04 deg, so there is no requirement for you to use tracking with a 3.5m diameter dish. THAICOM 5 1 29163U 06020B 10021.97027424 -.00000104 00000-0 10000-3 0 7479 2 29163 0.0419 243.3712 0003935 60.9560 244.6736 1.00271470 13474 You don't need motors and a tracking system. You just need to accurately point the dish once and then leave it fixed. Use this page for dish pointing in Afghanistan. You can do the alignment by receiving either C or Ku band carriers. Here is a listing of some carriers active now: https://www.lyngsat.com/thai5.html C and Ku band operation: This page Technical details for Prodelin antennas gives details of Prodelin C and Ku band linear polarisation feeds. There are suitable 2 port (tx/rx) linear feeds for C and Ku bands, but NOT for operation at both C and Ku band simultaneously. Such dual band feeds (4,6,12,14 GHz) do exist from other feed manufacturers and may be very expensive. Work out what are your actual requirements. You need to transmit at 6 GHz linear polarisation. Only one tx polarisation ? Do you need to receive at 4 GHz? One or two polarisations ? Ku band; receive only or tx/rx ? Ku Polarisations ? Think about what you must have and what might be nice to have and then you will be better prepared to discuss with Prodelin or other feed manufacturer. I would consider having two antennas, one working at C band and one working at Ku band. Frequencies: Contact Thaicom to find details of your uplink frequency, eirp and polarisation, and their general specifications relating to your transmissions: spurii, side-lobes, x-pol etc. Best regards, Eric |
