Title: Remote access to an IP cam/dvr connected to tooway
Post by RED on Oct 13th, 2010 at 8:45am
Hello all,

I'm new to this forum (and also new to tooway systems) and I would like ask a couple of questions regarding remote access to a tooway system.

I'm trying to remotely access an IP cam (or a dvr) connected to a tooway modem. I can ping the camera from the web, but when I try to access it all I get is a blank page.

I've tryied with different ports (as I saw in this same forum that some ports of the tooway system are closed) but it didn't work.

At this point I'm a bit confused and I'm not sure if it's possible to connect remotely to a tooway system, but, as far as I can understand, the GOS doesn't state the contrary.

żDoes anyone succesfully access an IP cam connected to a tooway system before?
żAre there any proven methods/solutions to remotely access a tooway system?

Any help/advice would be much appreciated.

Many thanks to all for your time and patience!!!!!

Many thanks for the advice!!!

I will check logmein service, but I have the feeling that it's not exactly what I need, because I will need to add a PC to the CCTV installation and all I want is to access the camera/dvr/NAS.

Again, many thanks for your help, much appreciated.

Just get a old or cheap PC, no monitor or keyboard needed. Via this PC you can access anything on the local network.

Does anyone else know an alternative solution?

There must be a way to make the tooway system accept incoming connections.

The Tooway system is the same as the well established Wildblue system in the US.

Search Google using keywords like < Wildblue public IP address >

If you can ping your Tooway modem from the public internet you are definitely getting somewhere.  Maybe your public IP address varies and you need dynamic DNS, maybe some ports (80?) are blocked.  Investigate, via Google, and see if you can work around the problem.

I suspect that Tooway want to discourage the use of servers at Tooway VSAT remote sites since the uplink capacity from Tooway system is so low.

Best regards, Eric.
