Post by andyflower on Mar 16th, 2011 at 4:53am
I have iDirect EVO X3. Can somebody explain the following command supported by EVO X3. A sample output of the command is also given...

> hookstatus
Usage: hookstatus [protocol*] | interface
WARNING: THIS COMMAND IS FOR DEVELEPER USE ONLY.
YOU CAN CHECK THE PROTOCOL'S HOOKUP STATUS USING THIS COMMAND
BUT YOU HAVE TO MAKE SURE THE POINTER IS VALID.
USE AT YOUR OWN RISK!!! INVALID POINTER WILL CRASH THE PROGRAM!!!

Just guessing; but you ask for any ideas  ..

I believe that this may refer to very basic "hook" input/output software subroutines that may used to give direct access to Ethernet packets.  Raw packets may be output directly and incoming and outgoing packets may be examined or processed.

Useful for debugging, testing, firewall filtering, security, network monitoring.

I suspect that hookstatus command will tell you if a hook has been added to a particular interface/protocol.

The use of "hook" software is abnormal. Ethernet traffic is normally processed via higher level socket interfaces.

If someone from iDirect knows better, please say..

Best regards, Eric.
