Title: HX50
Post by ravenr on Apr 11th, 2011 at 5:46pm
Hello, I am stationed in Afghanistan, I purchased a system that came with a HX50 Modem.  The problem is the power light is flashing which is not allowing me to connect to the modem IP address to register the modem.  Hopefully someone can provide me with a solution for the flashing power light.  Thanks in advance.

Power light flashing is normal for a modem prior to commissioning. It indicates that the modem is running in its default fallback software version.  When commissioned, the hub will download new software to the modem and the power LED will no longer flash.

In the precommissioned state, the IP address of the main ethernet socket on the HX modem is
Set your PC network interface to AUTO DHCP and do ipconfig /release then ipconfig /renew.  Ping the modem at to check that you are communicationg with the modem properly.
or manually set your PC IP to and gateway to

Once commissioned the IP address and subnet mask of the modem will change to that told to your by your service provider. Typical mask is

Ok I did what you said I changed my IP both ways. It still won't let me get into the gui to commission the modem. Do you have any other ideas? The power light is still blinking and the lan line is solid. When I try to switch ports 1 into 2 the lan light goes out.

Can you ping the modem on port 1 ?
Open a black command window and type

If not, what does
ipconfig /all
say ?

It should show:
IPv4 address
Subnet Mask
Default Gateway

If all above works OK then try opening a browser and type
http:/ /
into the browser address bar.

Best regards, Eric

when I ping the modem on port 1: I get request timed out

port 2: I get transmit failed

ipconfig/all: the IPv4, subnet mask, default gateway does not show up at all. when i run command ipconfig/renew all get all the above but the numbers does not match what you said in your last text.

ipconfig /renew will make DHCP work if auto is on. The Network Interface hardware will connect to the modem and pull out the gateway and subnet mask from the modem. Your PC will then invent for itself its own IP address by adding 1 to the gateway address.

ipconfig /all requests and displays all information from the Network Interface hardware in your PC.
Trying ipconfig on its own displays less information.

Control Panel, Network and Internet. Network Connection, Local Area Network, Local Connection Status, Properties, Internet Protocol Version 4 (TCP/IP) - highlight - then Properties

Now either set "Obtain IP address Automatically" or set manually to

Older type PCs may need to be rebooted.

Then access the modem by ping or entering http:/ / in browser

You need a PC directly connected to the modem, with no router etc in between.

Bes regards, Eric

I finally got into the modem, now I am having issues aiming the dish, the highest signal strength I can get is 16. I have took a snap shot of the setup/registration page and I am receiving no help from a tech. I am hoping you can help me out with this issue as well.

Good Afternoon Sir,
I am sorry to hear about the issues you have faced with support so far, however; I would like to take over the case and work directly with you. Please send via email ( a screenshot of the "VSAT Manual Commissioning Page". To get to the VSAT Manual Commissioning Page you will need to follow the below steps:

1) Browse to http:/ /

2) Select "Installation" from the menu options down the left hand side of the page.

3) Select the sub menu option of "Setup"

4) Select "VSAT Manual Commissioning Page"

Please expand all options on the page and take a screenshot to send to me.

I will also be able to provide dish alignment angles based on the Latitude and Longitude listed in the VSAT Manual Commissioning Page.
