Title: no Rx lock on X3 new install
Post by sedex on Aug 5th, 2011 at 8:39am
I have been trying to get a Rx lock on a new install with an X3 modem with no joy. Everything that I can check seems to be fine (modem voltages, cables, new LNB, BUC status lite on grn) but just get the amber lights for Rx and Net. Dish peaks with Satbuddy at around 80 and locks well. Can get two Ku sat signals 4 deg apart (assume G18 and Echostar 14?) - both peak well on Satbuddy. Am located 80 miles from the nearest road in Yukon 60.5N so the dish is nearly vertical. Have tried isite software and get -42v but antenna pointing histogram graphic never lights up on any satellite. Tech support have been excellent and have tried just about everything.  Will try to obtain a new config file - but just in case if anyone has any ideas they would sure be welcome.

Ideas:
Wrong config file (L band receive frequency, bit rate, FEC).
Wrong polarisation (wrong way round assembly for circular or wrong angle for linear).
Wrong type LNB (model number/local oscillator freq).

Best regards, Eric

Got it to work finally - the issue appears to be that we are located very close to the north limit of the footprint, and as such the sensitivity is beyond what the Satbuddy and equivalent aimers we tried could do. Adjustment of +/- 1/8 of a turn on the fine adjustment was zero to max to zero. Never seen one that tight before. Took a fair bit of patience on the part of Tech support tracking CW to get it to work, but now it works very well. Apparently farther west towards Alaska we would have had an easier time of it (and will be doing another install over there later this year). This is the 4th install I have done with this supplier, and they have consistently offered excellent tech support.
Cheers
