Title: Need to perform 1DB after modem change?
Post by sigu0001 on Oct 24th, 2011 at 10:23am
Hi,

do you guys always do the 1dB test after changing a new modem?

Personally, I think it is a good practice, because I have noticed significant difference on 1dB point for different modems, on the same antenna.

However, I cannot be sure whether it is caused by the modems, or the fact that one of them has been operating over a long time, while the other is brand new.

hopefully, someone can give more insight on this?

brs,
SG

Sharing is caring...

Quote from iDirect support:

"The 1 dB compression of a modem does not depend on the model type of the modem. It is determined with the type size of the ODU (Out Door Unit , typically BUC), type and length of the cable and the modem itself. So it can differ by modem or type of the BUC on the same installation. Each modem has its own calibration file during the manufacture so it could be different. Over time it could be different as the antenna can go slightly out of line or modem modulator aging but can not be determined by how much."

can anyone give some info regarding to the calibration file? never worked on it before..
