Title: 2 Modems one antenna
Post by Malachy on Apr 16th, 2012 at 5:07pm
Dear Satsig,

Is it possible to use 2 modems on one antenna pointed to one satellite?

I have 2 systems both W3A and one antenna and was thinking to use one to save on resources.

Regards,

Malachy

If you are using Hughes HX, then ask WAFA/BW about using both ethernet ports on the back.  One HX modem with one LNB/BUC has the capability of carrying extra traffic if both ethernet ports are utilised.

Regarding two modems connected to the same LNB/BUC:
I don't like the idea.  Answer is no.  The two modems will generate their own 10 MHz references to the outdoor equipment and these will interfere with each other.  There is also the possibility that both modems will transmit a burst simultaneously causing interference.

Best regards, Eric.
