Title: VSATs for Utility applications
Post by Eric Johnston on Apr 21st, 2012 at 9:37am
The new low cost iDirect X1 customer routers provide conventional VSAT broadband access to the internet, web page downloads, email, VoIP etc, but in addition are ideally suited to remote telemetry for utility applications such as smart metering, oil, gas, water monitoring and control, and infrequent message type applications for security and military.

They are X1 physically smaller and cheaper than the old X3 version and, optionally, come as a bundle (dish, feed, LNB, small size ORU). An outdoor IP67 version is available.

Areas where the X1 will work are per this composite map image below:

Picture of the new iDirect X1 package. Note the small size new X1 router/modem and BUC compared with the X3 on the left.
This is the indoor version of the router.
