Title: Intelsat 12 Beacon CW Plot
Post by akki on May 30th, 2012 at 8:00am
Hi,

We are trying to point our 1.2m KU Band antenna on Intelsat 12 at Beacon frequency 11697 V polarization. We are using Universal LNB with LO frequency 9.75, 10.60 GHZ on spectrum analyzer.

So our receive center  frequency will be 1097 MHz on spectrum analyzer. Kindly can you send me plot of your beacon CW wave on Middle East beam so I can make sure that I am on right location and satellite.

If you are using a DRO type Universal LNB (LO frequency 9.75 or 10.60 GHz) beware of frequency error and drift if you are trying to find a low level CW beacon signal.  The DRO in the LNB could be as much as 2 MHz in error. Read the LNB specification.

If you use the analyser with narrow span and narrow resolution bandwidth you may miss the beacon completely, but when you do see it it will be large and very clear.

If you use the analyser with a wider span and wider resolution bandwidth you may hardly be able to see the beacon, like a low lump in the noise floor.

A PLL type LNB is best if you are seeking low level CW carriers.

On IS-12, there may be another beacon at 11697.5 MHz.

Tell us what you see and what polarisation.

Best regards, Eric.
