Hello,

I want to know more about the installation of Ka-band specifically Yahsat 1B. My company is deploying the system and I want to know if the satellite can be tracked using an Analyzer or any other tracking equipments? If it will be possible how do I get the tracking frequencies. Cos I have check on www.lyngsat.com I couldn't see the satellite name, I only saw yahsat 1A.

Ka band LNBs have local oscillator frequencies like:
17.25, 18.25, 19.25 GHz with input and output frequencies like:
LO=17.25   input 18.2-19.2 GHz   output 950-1950 MHz
LO=18.25   input 19.2-20.2 GHz   output 950-1950 MHz
LO=19.25   input 20.2-21.2 GHz   output 950-1950 MHz

500 MHz bandwidth versions may be like:
LO=18.25   input 19.2-19.7 GHz   output 950-1450 MHz
LO=18.75   input 19.7-19.2 GHz   output 950-1450 MHz
etc

Find out what type LNB you are using and its local oscillator frequency when operating.

Find out the satellite downlink carrier frequency for your service and its symbol rate.

Calculate the IF frequency of your wanted carrier in the LNB coax cable (it will be in the range 950-2000 MHz).
IF frequency = satellite frequency - LO frequency.

Install a splitter in the LNB coax cable and connect a suitable spectrum analyser (DC blocked if necessary) or meter with range 950-2000 MHz.

Observe your wanted carrier, its bandwidth, and the adjacent wider spectrum of other carriers if any, and remember it. Draw it on paper to take with you.

Each time you set up a new antenna look for the same spectrum pattern, making sure you have set the same polarisation and any other LNB control voltages or tones from the modem.
