Title: X3 modem browsing issue!!!!!!!!!
Post by Ding7 on Feb 12th, 2013 at 12:01am
HELP !!!

my X3 modem has a browsing issue !!! I have to restart the modem every 5 min
when i ping the DNS or any web site  i got a reply with any Loss ,i have checked cpu load i found that i rise between 81% and 95 % (Is this normal?).

I have a Private IP of /24. (Could this causing this issue ?)
i checked nat stats i found a lots dropped sessions.
this is a serious issue cause i can' t use any wireless devices or more than 2 PCs, I han 2mbps/512kbps connection, i have tried everthing ,cleanning PCs tracking downloading PCs in vain, seems that a traffic is there but after a certain time there is no longer TCP traffic but VOIP still working without any problem,
could you please help me to handle this issue.

Ding

Hello Ding,

I think you should contact your provider, but from your description and for the bandwidth you are using, I would suggest you to check the number of sessions running. Sounds like too much simultaneously sessions. Ask your provider to check the spoofing sessions for this terminal.

Another thing you should check is the modem temperature. Is it placed in good ventilated and airconditioned enviroment?

Yet another thing - you say you need to reboot your modem every 5 minutes. What happens to the modem LED every 5 minutes? If Tx goes off, it sounds like your modem is locked to a certain network.

Please let us know how it goes, and if you still facing some issues please feel free to contact me, as we have good engineers in Juba.

Kind Regards,
Nimrod

Thanks  Nimrod

I will asks my provider  for  that.
I have 1024 running and  dropped 1586
about the temperature the Modem is in a room with a good ventillation (2 A.Cs)

Tx and NET led still green and the ping is OK DNS or any Website but browsing is an issue, i reboot for getting connection again.

kind Regars

Ding,

Do you have access to view iMonitor for your site? If so, we can give you a list of some areas to check in iMonitor.  If you dont have access you will need to contact your provider. Please let us know so we can start pointing you (or your Network Operators) in the right direction.

regards, Dave

Ding,

I think Nimrod is right in diagnosing the session count issue.

In iMonitor for your site, select the "Probe" tab. At the right you will see the Protocal Processor, with a drop down box labeled Protocol Layer, select "Spoof" then click the "View Stats" button. Near the top of the list of results you should see a entry called "SessionCount"
The number there should equal around 10 or 20 for each PC you have on the LAN behind the modem and 4 to 6 for each VoIP. So if you have 5 PC's expect between 50 and 100 Sessions. If its way more than what the math should total, its not a VSAT problem but a LAN issue. I would go to each PC and from the command line enter the NETSTAT command (this will tell you exactly how many sessions each PC has open. )

What your looking for is the infected machine with LOTS of open sessions, which would be likely caused by a DOS (denial of service) virus, which opens so many ports that the network becomes unusable). Remove that PC from the LAN and see if the issue persists.

SuperDave,

I have access on imonitor but when i drop down box labeled Protocol Layer, select "Spoof" and  then click the "View Stats" button nothing comes on, may be i have a guest user.

I am wondering that , as i have more than 45 pc
and my X3 modem is in charge of NATing and routing  this could causing processor saturating  when i add wireless it is become worse without even adding any PC ??
I can also mentionning that if i am using one PC connection Last longer but not 2 PCs.

If it is a malware or a virus that infected my PCs,what is the best Antivirus to disinfect those malware witch affect VSAT performance??

Regards

ok,

I think you should get better support from your provider, but here are some things you can try, as it looks like a maleware openning too many sessions indeed. So I suggest the following:
1. disconnect computer by computer and check if network becomes better; try to isolate the problematic computer or computers.
2. Try to offload from the X3 modem, for example, using external good router like Cisco for the NAT.

Good luck and tell us how it goes
