Title: Alignment Check
Post by sheltie on May 20th, 2013 at 12:08pm
Hi all,

Is there a method to check that the dish is still aligned optimally without doing the install, beep setup, ie which figures on the modem indicate optumum levels?

I have just installed a ground mount to support the TRIA in high winds and just want to check I havent "pulled" the TRIA off centre.

I am in the Shetland Islands north of Scotland and my levels today are as below

Modem:-
General
Rx Power: -38.8 dBm
Rx SNR: 11.3 dB
ODU Telemetry status:
Cable Resistance: 1.0 Ohms
Cable Attenuation 14.8 dB

TRIA:-
General
Tx IF Power: -31.4dBm
Tx RF Power: 24.3dBm
Temperature: 30 °C

Thanks in advance

Your figures look just like my setup which was installed a couple of days ago by Avonline.

My cable attenuation is fluctuating a lot though. Don't know if thats bad or not...

I have one week using my new Tooway system. I am very very happy, about 1 month without internet in my new flat, in the middle of a city, but NO phone-wire in my street (WOWWWWWW).

I had the same questions... are my values correct? My values are like yours, and I get about 22-26 mbps ( down) and 3-5 (up).

My values are:

Modem:-
General
Rx Power: -30.2 dBm
Rx SNR: 11.8 dB
ODU Telemetry status:
Cable Resistance: 0.5 Ohms
Cable Attenuation 5.3 dB

TRIA:-
General
Tx IF Power: -29.7dBm
Tx RF Power: 31.8dBm
Temperature: 40 °C

WE can post our values to compare if our installations are correct. The self installer don't have a standar values to compare it.

Hello, No, there is no other way of checking the pointing of your Tooway dish other than with the built in beeper. I know it's a bit of a pain, but it is very accurate. I have noticed though, that with recent installations, even in perfect conditions, I cannot get a S/N performance better than about 11.5 db up or down, whereas in the past, 14db was commonplace. I don't yet know the reason for this, but the systems don't seem to work any the worse for it.

My SNR is changing over the time, now is about 10.7.
I tried to align my antenna again, but is in the correct position. The beeper is Ok, but now the SRN is worst. I think that is the summer, heavy humidity in the sky...

Don't worry about it. If it hits 9 then go and play with the dish. Levels will fluctuate due to atmospheric conditions...

Thank you my friend.

If I do the alignment test I get an intermittent 'beep'. Shouldn't the beep be continuous??

The beep should be continuos.
But In my installations, I leave the beep continuos and if restart the install procedure the beep is not continuos, at the same position, and needed to move away one degree the antenna and return to the position for getting the continuos beep.

This is very odd!! I get an intermittent beep-beep but if I put my hand in front of the Tria without moving the dish and then move it away, the beep changes to a continuous sound.
