Title: Sun outages : your experiences please
Post by Admin1 on Feb 25th, 2015 at 11:11am
The equinox is approaching, so we are just entering a few weeks of sun noise outage events when the sun will pass behind the satellite you are pointed at.

This will happen on several consecutive (say 5) days, with the centre day having the worst effect, typically lasting a few minutes. You may not notice much effect on days 1 and 5.

If your antenna points approximately south then your outages will occur around midday.  If you antenna faces east then the events will occur in the morning.  If you antenna faces west then the outages will be in the afternoon.

There are a number of calculators on the internet to predict these events.

Example https://www.nynex.de/sunoutage/index.html

If you experience such an event please tell us exact times when it happened, how long it took and details of your location, the satellite, frequency, dish size and diameter.  This will help improve the accuracy / credibility of the predictions.

Best regards, Eric.
