From press release:  11 July 2016, 8:34 am

Optus Satellite has announced a new wholesale relationship with URSYS, a designer and provisioner of satellite based voice and data communications, specifically for complex networks in remote and rural areas.

The relationship will see URSYS utilise dedicated satellite capacity on Optus’ D2 satellite, stationed at the 152 degrees East geostationary orbital location, as well as access to third party international satellite providers. In addition, URSYS will utilise Optus’ teleport facilities at Belrose, north of Sydney in NSW, and the wider Optus infrastructure.

Optus Satellite Vice President, Paul Sheridan said, this new relationship with URSYS is significant as it “focuses on joint go-to-market opportunities within the targeted LTE, SCADA* and unique network industries.”

“This exciting new relationship builds on the deep experience of both URSYS and Optus Satellite to meet demands coming from the market for a complete solution, particularly where more than just a simple broadband connection is required.”

Grahame Cover, URSYS CEO said the alliance between Optus and URSYS will deliver an exciting new contribution to Australian regional telecommunications.

“URSYS and Optus Satellite have proven long term commitments to remote and rural Australia, and this partnership combines our expertise to re-define services and offer bespoke solutions to remote business customers with specific network requirements.”

URSYS has designed, built and managed several nationally significant networks including; NT Connect for the Local Government Association of Northern Territory communities; the South Pacific Tsunami Warning Network for the Bureau of Meteorology; a national satellite based SCADA network for APA Group and a complete commercial grade VSAT services solution for CYGNUS Satellite.

A current initiative of URSYS is Remote Outback Satellite Infrastructure e-Health (ROSIE) a Tele-Health network for 23 remote Health Clinics across North Western Australia, Northern Territory and South Australia. ROSIE demonstrates the effect of high quality and reliable telecommunications on remote health delivery.

ROSIE utilises commercial grade communications services to allow the use of health applications which are normally only available in city or regional clinics. These applications allow direct access between remote based clinicians and city based specialists in real time.

* SCADA is supervisory control and data acquisition. It is a system that gathers and analyses real time data. Commonly, SCADA systems monitor and control a plant or equipment in industries such as telecommunications, water and waste control, energy, oil and gas refining and transportation.
