Title: Viasat to take over Eutelsat's KA-SAT and supply follow-on capacity.

Eutelsat has managed to sell its remaining 51% share of its Euro Broadband Infrastructure (EBI) to Viasat for approximately 140 million euros.

This gives Viasat a confident opportunity to initially supplement and eventually replace Eutelsat's KA-SAT satellite, launched 26 Dec 2020. Viasat has plans for a very much higher capacity ViaSat 3 satellite offering higher end user bit rates, comparable to what is now being achieved in the US. In addition to improving internet to home and small business users in remote locations, Viasat will look to opportunities for aeronautical and land mobile services which are expected to grow with the use of customer phased array antennas.

In the past KA-SAT service has been sold to end users exclusively by local reseller/installer companies who have bought capacity from Skylogic (a Eutelsat subsidiary) in Italy. Under the new Viasat management, expect greater interaction between the satellite operator and the end user, particularly if the end user is an international airline, retailer or pan-european trucking company.
