I have just installed Xplornet and the download speeds are quite good (70% to 90% of advertised)... however ... the upload speeds are terrible 9.0 to 11.0 Kbps compared to advertised 256 Kpbs.  Is this a common experience with other users ?

Nope. Well, not in a typical installation anyway. It's not unusual to often obtain MORE than advertised downloads. The fact that you report 70% of advertised AND poor upload speeds is solid evidence that something's not as it should be.

What is your latitude/longitude? How long is your cable run? Are you using the standard 66cm dish?

As it turns out - using another speed check I get totally different results on the upload.  Downloads are 900 Kbps plus and uploads are 120 plus or minus.  Much closer to what I would expect.  I am using a large dish and the cable run is 75 ft. as required by the installer.  So far I am quite happy with the performance (compared to dial up of course) even with the high latency issues.  Thanks for your input.
