SATSIG Forum Rules

Users of the satsig.net forum are reminded that the following terms and conditions apply and that you need to agree to them in order to be accepted as user:

You agree, through your use of this YaBB forum, that you will not post any material which is false, defamatory, inaccurate, abusive, vulgar, hateful, harassing, obscene, profane, sexually oriented, threatening, invasive of a person's privacy, misleading or otherwise in violation of ANY law. This is not humorous and legal actions can be taken against you. You also agree not to post any copyrighted material unless the copyright is owned by you or you have consent from the owner of the copyrighted material. Spam, flooding, advertisements and links (* see below), chain letters, pyramid schemes, and solicitations (* see below) are also inappropriate to this YaBB forum.

Note that it is impossible for us to confirm the validity of posts on this YaBB forum. Please remember that we do not actively monitor the posted messages and are not responsible for their content. We do not warrant the accuracy, completeness or usefulness of any information presented. The messages express the views of the author, not necessarily the views of this YaBB forum. Anyone who feels that a posted message is objectionable is encouraged to notify an administrator of this forum by email. We have the rights to remove objectionable content, within a reasonable time frame, if we determine that removal is necessary. This is a manual process however, so please realise that we may not be able to remove or edit particular messages immediately. This policy goes for member profile information as well. From time to time the title and content of messages are amended to improve clarity, spelling, grammar and understanding.  Please avoid using all UPPER CASE characters. You may go back and edit your posting if you notice a mistake in grammar or punctuation.   Links to unsuitable places will be removed without warning or explanation.   Postings alluding to illegal activities, interfering or hacking into VSAT systems, or encouraging activities which are an abuse of valuable satellite resources are deleted. This includes the hacking of satellite TV codes, virus sending, non-broadcast file sharing and MP3 uploading and downloading.

Messages which show premium rate phone numbers will be deleted.   Messages which waste vertical space will be deleted. Messages with excessive UPPER CASE text will be deleted.  Repetitive similar messages will be deleted.

You remain solely responsible for the content of your messages, and you agree to indemnify and hold harmless this forum, and any related websites to this forum. We at this YaBB forum also reserve the right to reveal your identity (or any information we have about you) in the event of a complaint or legal action arising from any information posted by you.

You have the ability, as you register, to choose your username. We advise that you keep the name appropriate. With this user account you are about to register, you agree to never give your password out to another member, for your protection and for validity reasons. You also agree to NEVER use another member's account to post messages or browse this forum.

After you register and log into this YaBB forum, you can fill out a detailed profile. Your email address may be used in order to send you emails which we hope will be of interest to you. It is your responsibility to present clean and accurate information. Any information we deem misleading, inaccurate or vulgar will be removed. Please avoid use of superlatives such as 'best', 'very', 'fastest', 'unparalleled', 'cheapest', 'most competitive', 'widest' , '100% guaranteed' etc in your comments about services.  Postings referring to devices transmitting data via AC mains wiring are liable to being deleted as I dislike such things because they cause short wave HF wireless interference.

Please note that with each post, your IP address is recorded, in the event that you need to be banned from this YaBB forum or your ISP contacted. This will only happen in the event of a major violation of this agreement.

Please note that emails sent from the server as a result of your activity, such you sending messages to other members of the forum, are copied to the forum admin to provide a check that the forum software is working correctly and to allow us to monitor for inappropriate behaviours. Your messenging is not private.

*   It is normally possible to put active hyper-links into your posts but this does encourage spamming so may be discontinued at any time.  You are welcome to put links to your own website etc, provided that this is relevant and helpful to other visitors here.    In case you put such links, please consider putting a link from your own website back to a useful relevant page on this www.satsig.net website.  I welcome, in moderation, factual information about your products and services.  Duplicate multiple postings of similar information will be treated as spam and are regularly deleted.   If you mention the price for a shared VSAT service you must include the sharing ratio or explain the fair access policy.   Provide details in the format, for example, "256/1024 kbit/s 10:1 US$ 768 per month".   Do not use the word "unlimited" or similar expressions unless the sharing ratio is 1:1 i.e. dedicated continuous information rate, CIR or SCPC.   Postings failing to adhere to this rule will be removed.

Here is how to put images into this YaBB forum.

If you feel annoyed or angry and are contemplating writing complaints about other people or companies it is recommended that you pursue your grievance directly with the persons concerned in private.   Much dispute arises from misunderstandings and private discussion can often resolve issues amicably. The vast majority of the companies in this business are made up of people trying really hard to get their bit working properly.  Success however needs help from all, including from customers who need to manage their traffic sensibly, avoiding viruses, suppressing greedy downloaders, inappropriate use of servers etc and looking after their VSAT terminals avoiding corroded centre pins, dampness in cables etc.

If you feel that you have been 'ripped-off' by someone. e.g you have paid for equipment and it has not been delivered, you have sold equipment and never been paid (e.g credit card fraud), you have sold people satellite transponder bandwidth and they have never paid for it, the company that sold you a service has gone bust etc.,  please pursue direct in private with the other party.  It does not help to make public allegations which are unverifiable by us and leave you legally liable for defamation.   Some service providers may have their own web site customer support / discussion forums.

Deletion of members of the forum: Member registrations which remain unused are deleted regularly.  If this affects you, please just register again before posting your first message.   Old postings are regularly deleted.  Some older ones, if of long term interest, may be edited and incorporated in the on-line satellite forum archive.

Cookies:  Please note that by registering in the forum and subsequently logging in, that you agrees to cookies being stored on your computer, so that you remain logged in for the indicated number of hours.

Problems posting messages: Cookies are needed to enable you to login and post messages.  If you have registered and logged in and then find that when you try to post a message you get an error message saying "An Error Has Occured ! to post you must be logged in. If you don't have an account yet, please register." The cure is to check that Cookies are enabled in your browser. This means that cookies may be stored in your PC.  In Firefox, do tools/Options/Privacy.  Then click Cookies Always allow or do Exceptions and enter www.satsig.net Allow. In Internet Explorer do something similar e.g. Tools/Internet Options/Privacy/Medium High/sites/satsig.net Always Allow. If you don't have cookies enabled you won't be able to post messages. Cookies may also be stored in your PC (or other internet access device) if you visit other web sites via advert links.

Links to other sites:  Satsig.net is not responsible for the content of other sites and you visit them at your own risk. Adverts and links put in the forum by members in the forum may occasionally direct to spam or other objectionable content. We try to remove such links when we become are aware of them. Please tell us of any such links. Members please note that web sites that block the back button, have irritating spash front pages with large file sizes, or which have unnecessarily extremely large image or media files, are considered objectionable.

Passwords: If you change your password (using "Profile"), please use a complex password that is unique to the satsig.net forum. Do not use some easily guessed password or one that is the same password as you use for other purposes. If you ever use wireless, hotel or internet cafe it is particularly important to change your password as your username and password may be intercepted. Your communications to and from the web site are via https and should normally encrypted be encrypted. The range of cypher suites is limited and if your device does not have matching encryption software your communications may be liable to interception.  Even encrypted communications are liable to be decoded given sufficiently intensive hacking effort.  If you forget your password don't worry. You may click on the 'forgot password' link.   If you have problems just email me eric@satsig.net, I can't read your password, but can overwrite your password with a new one.

Email addresses:  Please note the option in your "Profile" to "Hide your email address?". This is optional with both advantages and disadvantages. It will probably reduce the amount of spam emails that you receive but it makes it more difficult for people to contact you. Consider putting your phone number instead. It is up to you to decide.
