xplornet ka-band

We have company with 15 people that are on line at any one time. Right now we are using dial up if you can beleive it. It's very slow and annoying.
We are looking at installing a "xplornet system". My question is to any one using this system. What do you think of it? Is it dependible? Price Quoted including installation is 900.oo. is this a fair price. How well do you think it will work with fifteen computers? And finally we have a cisco catalyst 2820. Will this work with xplornet?

Someone more familiar with the Canadian pricing structure will have to clarify on that quote, as it may be for an entry level system (consumer grade) system. If so, I don't believe it would adequately support 15 people who rely on it as a critical business tool. Now if that's a quoted price for an Enterprise system, it bears further investigation.

VPN excepted, it's probable that a server-over-satellite cofiguration would violate of the (consumer grade) terms of agreement.

I have xplornet the lowest package and it is great accept for use with bit torrent due to the dynamic IP - I think...

Here is some info which may be usefull.

My friend also has xplornet (KA-Boom package). He rus his own private Wi-Fi network for 6 or 7 people, and has 4 computers for his internet Cafe. Works so good I got it for my self as the only alternative here to dial-up

I have Telesat (Canada) as I used to be with Bell Expressvu's One-Way High Speed Satellite Internet until they migrated us over to the corporate Ka Band. Although Telesat doesn't take on home users they do refer Canadians to Xplornet (formerly LincSat).

Now speaking for Ka Band Satellite Internet, this service is by far the best as opposed to Ku service which is still a good choice but unlike Ka...Ku uses a wider beam thus doesn't have the capability to support higher bandwidth like Ka's Narrow Beam footprint, Meg and higher throughput and very good always on connection in rain and snow.

If you were to purchase the basic package of 500k's download and 128 upload I'd have to say you'd find the service a god-send when comparing it to your present dial-up. How could you not live with an always on connection that is truly routable...You'd likely just have to buy a router (a 50 dollar 4-Port Linksys one would do) then plug that into the Satellite Modem..then run a cable from the router and into your Cisco Switch and you'd be good to go!

As a note, that price of 900 is not that far off from what I paid when all was said and done here.

my experience with Xplornet KA service would lead me to say that with that many users KA service would not be your best choice. However, Xplornet does offer another product that will be better suited for your needs, it is a KU service called INET. If you visit xplornet.com and look at the business solutions you will find it there. They have several different packages that offer different speeds as well as other things like email accounts and web hosting.
I am heading to Alberta on easter Sunday to install one of these KU systems using a INET 300 package at a very nice resort in Jasper. I will be using a 1.2 meter dish and the 7000 modem. This package will handle lots of traffic and users. hope this info helps you...
