My experience installing an HX50 terminal

Bentley Walker have kindly loaned me one of the new HX50 terminals, which I have installed in my garden and had working for week now. (I am looking after it very carefully so some lucky real customer can have it !)

The 1.2m f/d=0.8 Prodelin Antenna with it advanced mode-matched feed was a novelty to me and you need to be careful with the initial assembly of the feed horn to the OMT. Having done that, setting the polarisation was really easy and accurate - there is a large polarisation scale on the back of the dish.

The config set up just took a few minutes and the activation process, when I powered on with both the transmit and receive coax cables connected was completed in ten minutes with me touching nothing. Then I was straight into the internet for web browsing. No problem all all.

Hopefully, BW will take your installation guide, pretty it up, and include it with their systems when a self-install is planned.

I wish I could have had this last week. Installing this system shaved off a fews years of my life.

What are the differences between the HN7700S we install here in the states and the HX50 you have over there?

Can any one tell me what value is needed for inbound and outbound rate code to see real performance of hx?

Which one? Information rate? Symbol rate? Modulation rate? FEC rate?

The DVB-S2 outlink carrier can have a variety of modulation and code rates: Encoding DVB-S2: BCH with LDPC 3/5, 2/3, 3/4, 5/6, 8/9, or 9/10 (8PSK) 1/2, 3/5, 2/3, 4/5, 5/6, 8/9, 9/10 (QPSK)

The remote site uplinks have 4 alternatives. Transmit encoding: Rate 1/2, 2/3, 4/5 TurboCode, Rate 1/2 Convolutional

The FEC code rates are varied dynamically so as to optimise the link. In clear sky, I was getting 8/9 8-PSK on the outlink and 4/5 Turbo on transmit.
