Upgrade to IDS 8.X

We have IDS 7.1 and considering upgrade to IDS 8.X with GQoS.

Can anyone share the experiance of upgrading to IDS 8.X?

Thanks.

What is your reason for moving to 8.X?  Is there a specific capability offered in 8.X that you are interested in? GQoS?

Exactly. GQoS is the main reason.

Do you presently use legacy QoS? (i.e. have any traffic profiles established?)

Upgrading to 8.X is no different that the previous versions when it comes to the actual upgrade upgrade itself.  There are a couple of exceptions:

1. An upgrade prep packaged needed for 3100s (it is installed prior to the cumulative_update and the image).
2. You have to convert your existing (legacy) QoS to Group QoS.  The legacy profiles migrate to GQoS pretty close to what they were in legacy but you will need to have a way to test it all after the migration.
3. 8.X brings a plethora of new warnings.  It is not uncommon to see SCPC errors or CRC_errors that were undetected in pre-8.X iDS's.

Hi,
The current QoS settings are minimal, so, that is not a concern. The question is regarding the sites coming up automatically after the version upgrade. Or, in other words, is the outroute and inroute of IDS 7.X is the same as IDS 8.X?

Outroute/Inroutes are identical.  That is unless you change a carrier spec in the upgrade process (which is not usually the norm).

The QoS profiles will migrate pretty close to what you have now....and look very similiar...only they will be in a GQoS environment (which it fairly layered).

Your remotes, are they fed by GPS/NMEA or hardcoded (fixed) GEO?

The remotes are hard coded

You will have no problem.

iDS 8.3 is about to be released (some may have it running already).  I would consider that iDS as it will fix the bugs from 8.2.2.
