Turning off ports on 5000 series modems...

So, question...  Is there a way to turn off all the ports on the back of a 5000 series modem???  I'm not sure if there is any port security on these modems... Or is the only way to do that by creating "phantom" VLAN's that lead to no where?

Are you an HNO with access to iBuilder? Those ports are controlled on an individual basis in iBuilder.  They are wide open in a default environment.

All I needed to know:)  I have access to iBuilder but....... it's best if I don't get in there and get anyone to upset;)  Nothing illegal... I work for the company so....

But because I'm unfamiliar with it, where abouts in iBuilder are the port settings?

Right click the remote in iBuilder and select modify.  Then click the switch tab.  From there you can enable those ports.

You COULD disable those ports by handjamming the options file but going about it that was would yield a (!) on the remote (as observed by the hub) and they would probably just change it back.  So, its best to just have them do it....so it is legitimate.

Yeah I hear ya on the handjamming... but what would you enter into the options file for that?  would you be able to cut and paste a port that is turned off?  I'm just curious as to what it looks like.

And curiousity got the best of me lol:)  I logged into iBuilder and took a look...  I knew about the "phantom VLAN" side of the house but i'm looking for a better solution...    Is the option to turn this off the "auto negotiation"?

The ability to manage the Ethernet switch ports and especially turn them off was only inlcuded in one of the 7.x releases. You may not see the iBuilder screen in some releases and there are some differences through the releases.

Quite true.  There are so many variants these days.  That is the first question I try to ask, but at times it goes unasked.

It was included in only one of the versions?!  Haha that's too funny... You guys have any idea on what version that might be?  We're running 7.0.5 on our network right now.  That seems like such a good option to have... I can't believe they only incorporated it in one release...  tsk tsk iDirect... tsk tsk:)

Sorry for the long delay... been busy
