A shared service suitable for 1 PC, used lightly, will typically be about $70 per month.  This will offer about 10kbit/s average download speed.  The maximum download speed quoted will be much higher to grab your attention.  If 400 people are sharing then "up to 4 Mbit/s" might be the sales pitch.

For $20 per month expect no more than 3.5 kbit/s.  The service is not "unlimited" but is in fact "severely limited by congestion and competition from all the other simultaneous users".

Any service provider describing shared services as unlimited gets banned from this forum and all references to their services are deleted to comply with the law regarding misleading advertising.

URGENT . . .  DESPERATE . . . PLEASE HELP

Are there any GENUINE broadband satellite internet services that be accessed in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia?
The providers here all describe their services as "broadband" - nothing more than a farce or outright fraud. The b'band service in such places as Hanoi is 5-to-10 times faster at a minimum, same for Thailand and most other countries.

I don't need to download movies - but to do so with my present service - the "fastest" available - ( ! ) would take 12 to 24 hours. A song would take up to 2-3 hours.

I do research extensively and which requires frequent emails.

PLEASE ADVISE - I NEED YOUR HELP !

Many, many thanks . . . . pappo

See here for some Asia VSAT service providers.

Expect to pay $840 per month for 100kbit/s down and 20k bit/s up dedicated service or, at the other extreme, $84 per month for the same service but shared with 10 other VSAT sites.

The cheapest service will provide little data throughput, whatever maximum peak rate may occasionally be when no other site is active.

Beware of anyone not stating their sharing ratio or offering sharing ratios that will give less than 10kbit/s per site.

Best regards, Eric.
