LinkStar, iDirect, Gilat and Hughes are alternative manufacturers of VSAT system hardware. They all make hub based star systems* that allow many customers to share the satellite capacity. The differences in the latest hardware offerings are far less than the differences in the way the hub operators run their systems. Some operators put too many customers on limited capacity to try and make a profit and end up with unhappy customers. It is a difficult trade off. Any system, regardless of technology, can be made to provide high speeds and minimal congestion at high cost or very low bit rates and excessive congestion at low costs.
Don't neglect dedicated SCPC (e.g. Comtech CDM570L) which avoids hub costs and guarantees capacity for you, not shared with anyone else. Expect prices like $70 per month per 10kbit/s pro rata.
* "Star systems" are well known for internet access. Equipment choice and configuration may enable dedicated mode links, broadcasting, mesh networking, VoIP and demand assigned links. If you have some special requirement ask.
Best regards, Eric.
