I am investigating the possibility of setting up a satellite radio station to service Grenada and the eastern Caribbean. Can anyone assist in recommending a satellite I can use to do the station? I also need an idea as to the monthly cost of doing so.

If you expect very few listeners for some specialist audio service consider internet distribution. Your studio need to connect to a streaming audio server capable of multiple outputs. Check what your internet costs will be as you will be paying according to the number of listeners.

If you are planning a local VHF FM or DAB broadcast on every island then consider a low power (and thus low cost) satellite link to a 1.8m dish at each (head end) terrestrial transmitter site. Telstar 11N has a possibly suitable coverage. Your studio needs to be connected to the satellite uplink site.

If you want very many listeners, who already have satellite set top boxes for receiving TV and audio, then you need to share with some existing major TV operator and uplink your audio on their multiplex. Your studio needs to be connected to the multiplex uplink site.  Look in lyngsat.com and talk to existing TV and audio broadcasters in the region.

Best regards, Eric.
