Check BUC is faulty

Hi,

I'm about how to check BUC is faulty or working.

Is there have any way to check BUC is working, without connecting to dish and transmit carrier check with remote site ?

This time i not have any antenna check BUC

Well there are several ways to check, but you will need external equipment such as C or Ku band spectrum anaylzer, or power meter. Both are not common on the field.

If it is a low-power BUC, you can try to connect it to a modem, if the BUC has LEDs, you can check their status. If not, you can try to touch the BUC and see if it is getting warm or if it stays dead cold. You will not be able to be 100% that the BUC is good, but it will give you at least an idea.

WHATEVER YOU DO - MAKE SURE THE WAVEGUIDE PART OF THE BUC IS EITHER TERMINATED CORRECTLY, AND NEVER POINTED TOWARD ANYONE, ESPECIALLY NOT TOWARD THE HEAD/ EYES.

There is another way to check if you have iDirect Modem and iSite software.
First you connect the buc to the Tx port of iDirect Modem and switch on the modem. Then login to modem using iSite.
If there is a fault in BUC you can see the LED in back side of iDirect Modem(near the Tx Port) in RED colour. Usually it should be green. And also you can see RED colour cross in iSite software saying BUC is not available.
This is method is also for get an idea only. It's not a 100% accurate way to check. But up to some extent you will understand the current BUC is healty or not.

Try replacing the BUC with the same make/model (one that you know works) and see if it does. If it does work then you know that there is an issue with the BUC.

If low powered BUC you can check to make sure that the power is supplied to it from the modem. Simply connect your multimeter to the end of the cable (BUC end)---One pin on the centre conductor and the other on the outer shield. There should be 18-24VDC on the cable (if DC is selected on the modem configuration)

If you are pointed correctly try to bring up a CW carrier with the satellite operator.

If high powered BUC then like what the others have suggested a spec an, power meter, etc.. are all required.
