Well there are several ways to check, but you will need external equipment such as C or Ku band spectrum anaylzer, or power meter. Both are not common on the field.
If it is a low-power BUC, you can try to connect it to a modem, if the BUC has LEDs, you can check their status. If not, you can try to touch the BUC and see if it is getting warm or if it stays dead cold. You will not be able to be 100% that the BUC is good, but it will give you at least an idea.
WHATEVER YOU DO - MAKE SURE THE WAVEGUIDE PART OF THE BUC IS EITHER TERMINATED CORRECTLY, AND NEVER POINTED TOWARD ANYONE, ESPECIALLY NOT TOWARD THE HEAD/ EYES.
