I think it should....as you mentioned it has an ASI interface and it is just a modulator, not a combined encoder/modulator.

Hi Oasis,

Thanks for the advice. There is confusion on the what the modulator can process since it was DVB-S compliant.  On the DVB-S standard it refer with MPEG2 compression while on DVB-S2 standard it refer with MPEG4 compression. Then, it is possible on the DVB-S compliant modulator.

Tristan

The exact model and options of your modulator matter.

I suggest you contact Scientific Atlanta and ask if it can do what you want regarding inputs. Regarding outputs, do you want the advanced modulation and FEC options of DVB-S2 ?

SA's contact details are at the end of this pdf document:

Hi Eric,

I will try to contact Scientific Atlanta regarding this. Regarding the output, as of this time our required parameters appear to be available on our Scientific Atlanta D9390 modulator (DVB-S) modulation and FEC. When the MPEG-4 Encoder is available in our office, I will try this setup and update you soon guys.

Hi,

Just a small note - I think the MPEG-4 started to be popular around 2007-2008. It is possible that when the modulator you have was designed, the MPEG-4 was just not common enough in the market and therefore the manufacturer did not provide and reference about it.

Please try and let us know if it works, i am curious as well Smiley

Kind Regards,

Hi Oasis and Eric,

Yesterday we have a equipment demo regarding MPEG-4 Encoder in our office. We tried to the ASI output of the Encoder to ASI input of the SA modulator (D9390). Since we are not able to transmit that time, we only verify the Input status on the Modulator and noticed that the signal is lock with no alarm on the unit. Both LED indicator on the back of the unit is on Green Status (L1 and L2).
I think that it is possible for Scientific Atlanta D9390 (DVB-S) modulator to process ASI signal from MPEG-4 Encoder.

Additional Info: The Encoder that we used for testing is WELLAV UMH252.
