GT&T have announced today new Ku band satellite broadband services in West and East Africa with speeds up to 10.5 Mbit/s down and 4.5Mbit/s up. Sharing ratios of 4:1 or 2:1, plus dedicated 1:1 as required.

Note the good coverage of north east Somalia, a place where a number of people have commented that there are few options for satellite beam coverages.

The technology uses DVB-S2 with ACM RX/TX. The pictures of the modem suggest that is is based on Gilat SkyEdge equipment. See http://www.gilatnetworks.com/Content.aspx?Page=ProductsAndSolutions-Overview

They also do an informative glossy brochure here http://www.globaltt.com/files/brochure/1102/index.html  (386k bytes flash download ) with many good explanatory picture and diagrams.
