TRIA (transmitter - radio - integrated - assembly

for this hughes system so were do i get one and how much does one cost?

Actually, it's Transmit/Receive Integrated Assembly. eBay is a good place to start. Be careful however, to buy one that is compatible with your feedarm. If not, your focal length and angle may become disadvantaged.

But who told you to replace the whole TRIA? I thought you just had a transmitter problem.

and got this reply

You need a new TRIA (transmitter - radio - integrated - assembly). You have too many failed transmission and also the temperature related problem indicates a bad TRIA.
PS: That you system goes out has nothing to do with peak time.
It may slow down during those times, but the light on the modem will stay on.

i have looked into wild blue and have done some reading about them and it seems they are not much better then hughes.net

if i am to assume correctly i take it my dish is still pointing in the spot it needs to be pointed at
with a Signal Strength 80 or around there!!
i have not found no nicks in the cables D&D did a test on them and said they were fine rj-6
new modem hn7000s so could it be in the dish is that not were this TRIA (transmitter - radio - integrated - assembly is or is it not? what else can it be? sorry but at this time we need to spend are money a bit more carefully

I'd hold suspect a diagnosis from someone who doesn't even know what the acronym means. A HughesNet TRIA is typically comprised of
transmitter (or BUC),
some waveguide,
an OMT (transducer),
a receiver (or LNB),
a feedhorn,
and in some cases, a waveguide splitter.
Why pay for all that, when your statistics seemingly point to a simple transmitter (or transmit IFL) problem?

If you're not sure which component is the transmitter, it's typically hanging beneath the feedarm. It's the largest of the individual components, the one with the cooling fins. You should be able to find a used 1 watt for under $100, a 2 watt for under $200. They're easily replaced: two bolts and four machine screws.

It would help if I know which TRIA you have, cuz I know a few places to look for replacement parts. But I have to know what I'm looking for. Can you find a picture of one like yours on the internet, and post the link here for me to take a look?

Otherwise - if there aren't any on eBay right now - scan the For Sale sections of the various satellite internet help forums. As last resort, you can buy an entire TRIA, and just use the transmitter - retaining the other components as spares.

between the dish and what i would call the front of the arm and nose piece is a box type cover on the bottom of it there are 8 machine allen screws is this were the transmitter is at? if i take the cover off is there a part number to look for?
i have a dish that oblong and says direcway on it

ok, that makes it a bit harder. You have the CHINON configuration, which for all practical purposes is obsolete. I believe it would be easier to replace your entire TRIA with the ISIS or ANUBIS configuration, than it would be to find a CHINON transmitter.

I found the post you're talking about on the other forum too. In it you said you cancelled your service, then "got the system back up and running". Does that mean you reinstalled the dish yourself?

what had happend is about the same thing we are going through right now!!! bad service!!!!
my wife got really pissed one day and said she had enough of them so we cancled service i bought thy system from direcway i think it cost close to $800.00
with the install!! so the dish is mine when she (My Wife)
decided dialup sucked out here going through 3 phone modem stations and taking 10 minutes to load any web page she wanted hughes back so i did not take the dish down but they said the old dw4000 modem would not work so i bought a new hn7000s everthing worked great till X-MAS break then all thies problems started up

the dish is oblong??there is an arm to the front piece and a sealed box in the middle of the arm on the bottom of the box is 8 allen machine screws then the nose piece

does this help decribe my dish?

Yup, Chinon. Going to be hard to find an exact replacement for a system that old. I'm told that the cylindrical transmitter will work on there, but I personally ??have had no luck making it fit without modifying the feedarm.

So we've come full circle. The guy at the other forum was right - just for the wrong reasons. Your best bet might in fact be to buy a new TRIA - if for no other reason than to use the transmitter component. Again, check eBay - there's an entire system just like yours here or search for online retailers like https://www.montanasatellitesupply.com/HughesNet_Satellite_Internet_Parts_s/67.h... . Note: the photos on that website are labeled incorrectly. The component that the word TRIA is actually pointing at - is the OMT (ortho-mode transducer).

would it be best to get a newer dish like this one or stay with the older type like i got?
and i dont suppose you have one for sale?

Don't have anything currently that can help your particular problem, sorry. But yes, starting over with current hardware/connectors/cabling is probably the way to go. I'm sure your old composite dish has begun to oxidize already. Rub the palm of your hand across the reflective surface of your dish, you'll see what I mean. Just like with cars, sometimes the best alternative is to junk the old one and buy new(er).

The system to which you linked is considered current Ku-band hardware, you can use it on the same family of satellites you're assigned to right now. But all your old cable/connectors/grounding block/et cetera should be replaced at the same time. Ka-band hardware is newer though. New Ka-band hardware is heavily subsidized by HughesNet, and professionally installed. All hardware - indoor and out - including standard installation - is $300. See https://gethughesnet.com/ That might be more inviting to you than paying the heavy freight on a used system - then having to install it yourself.

Word of advice though, don't impulsively buy through an online reseller. Buy from someone that you can look right in the face, and go back to if/when there's a problem. Search for an area dealer/installer, rather than some anonymous reseller and roving installer - neither of whom you'll ever hear from or see again.

i have been gone all week playing trucker and my wife and kids say this system has been up and running great all week ??????i would think if there was something bad with are part of the TRIA this could not be????

As outdoor systems age - particularly those that never see preventative maintenance - they become more vulnerable to changes in weather conditions. Water in the waveguide or in a cable connector can disrupt things for days - then be good for weeks after it dries out. Until the next time. I had a LNB this past summer that quit working when hit by the noon-day sun. Ironically, spraying it with a garden hose was a temporary solution. Once back in the afternoon shade, it started working again - till the sun hit it the same time the following day.

I pride myself in being able to troubleshoot with a scalpel, replacing individual components as (or before) they fail. But in your case, I think the shotgun solution is called for. Put a replacement outdoor installation on your shopping list. But whether you buy a new or used dish, I still strongly recommend brand new (and HughesNet approved) cable, connectors, ground block. Might not hurt to consider replacing the ground circuits while you're at it.

Hint: a $300 upgrade to the HN9000S buys you all that, and even includes professional (standard) installation.
