This satsig forum displays adverts from Google Adsense.   When page requests come from HughesNet VSAT users I see errors in my server log files.  This has been going on for a long time but I have become aware that other web sites get similar errors whenever a someone on HNS networks requests a page.

Does HNS have some cache system or similar that is configured so it thinks some files are on my web site when they are not ?

The errors involve incorrect requests to my site for non-existing files like this:

GET /pagead/test_domain.js
GET /pagead/osd.js
GET /pagead/expansion_embed.js
GET /pagead/atf.js
GET /spin_32.gif

These files should be called from Google servers.

Does anyone with a web server frequently accessed by VSAT customers with Hughenet/Direcway sites see similar errors.

Do any users with HNS VSATs have problems seeing Google Adsense ads or running my dish pointing maps ?

Similar errors come from SeaMobile users.

Best regards, Eric.

Is there a pattern to the originating IP addresses? I ask, because HNS-North America owns a different set of IP blocks than does HNS-Europe or  HNS-Latin America (or  HNS-elsewhere for that matter).

Here are the ones causing pagead errors today so far:
Typically each IP causes multiple error lines.

66.82.9.17 HNS DIREC-PC Germantown
66.82.9.61
66.82.9.17
66.82.9.57
66.82.9.58
66.82.9.59
66.82.162.12  HNS DIREC-PC Germantown
66.82.162.21
67.142.130.11 HNS DIREC-PC Germantown
67.142.130.18
67.142.130.48
67.142.162.23
69.19.14.41  HNS DIREC-PC Germantown
69.19.14.29
69.19.14.30
69.19.14.31 HNS DIRECPC
72.171.0.142  HNS DIREC-PC Germantown
88.202.63.13 SEAMOBILE Europe iDirect via Skylogic

Well, I'll grant you that on the surface Hughes-North America addresses represent the majority of your examples. But Amsterdam and Mauritius are represented as well. Completely different IP blocks. Given the expected customer-to-address ratio, I'm thinking you may be seeing a procedural error at the provider level, rather than one generated by a single corporation.

Just my SWAG

Here are some more IPs sending out bad 404 requests for pagead directory.

72.171.0.145 DIRECPC
69.168.144.143 XPLORNET Woodstock NB
66.82.9.13 DirecWay HNS
67.142.130.47 DirecWay HNS

I suspect some common software caching system used at HNS, XPLORNET and Skylogic teleports. There is an error in their software in the way they assemble the full url address for files related to Google Adsense and Google Maps API.

Best regards, Eric.
