Hughes HN7000 maintenance Casablanca, Marocco.

We have been out for a maintenance/repair job of a Hughes HN7000 systems installed close to Casablanca, Marocco (Afirca)

System was installed years ago by a local company and has been very unstable most of the time.

We found a few issues that could be the source of the problem.

...

1) A very dirty dish causes a bad reflection of the RX and TX signals.
2) Bad connectors, loose contacts.
3) Wrong polarisation.
4) Dish was wobbling and not correct fitted on the floor pole.

Old connectors (RG6 Coax cable)

...

After cleaning the dish, using new connectors, correct installed on the floor pole, re-alignment and correct polarisation, the system was working perfect.

The "ugly" part was the old push on connectors. Your work looks fine. I believe though, that I'd have checked the pedigree on that cable. It appears that you've used 3 GHz Corning CableCon F-56-CX3 4.9 (99909441) connectors. They are unable to achieve performance spec when attached to less than 3GHz cable. Can't tell for sure without knowing the numbers stamped on the jacket. But from the photos I still suspect it may be interior-grade cable, possibly even 900MHz stuff. Since the IFL operates in the 9501500MHz window, minimum 2.2GHz cable should be used. And considering the 3GHz connectors, ideally 3GHz.

Another point to consider; when you use 3GHz connectors, the cable grounding block should be upgraded to 3GHz too. It's a matter of a chain only being as strong as its weakest link.

Cable is exact the same we use for alignment (2,5m test cable between satellite finder and LNB), RG6. But I agree, on the photo it looks like ordinary coax.

I understand, as I too get called upon occasionally - to remedy shoddy installations. I am only pointing out a few of those items I consider when figuring out what's necessary to right the wrongs. Another is to replace all cable that doesn't have identifying markings on the jacket. That to me is an automatic indicator of substandard "grey market" cable.
