Hi,

Has anyone got any experience of this product?

It appears to be a low-cost 2-way VSAT that uses a domestic TV dish with an integrated LNB/500mW BUC and is 'user installable'. It looks to be just the job for mobile use throughout Europe (I think the service is hosted on Astra 1E V BSS beam).

Filiago sell the hardware as 'Astra2Connect' for 320€ but only for use in Germany, Austria and Switzerland. I'd like to find someone who would sell me one in the UK.

Alden do an auto-seeking, fully-mobile version, but that's way out of my budget at over £3000.

On the technical front, having researched 2-way for a couple of years but stuck with my 1-way/GSM system for ease of use and deployment it's hard to see how such crude, low-powered, hardware could work.

Chris

I can tell you from personal experience the Astra2Connect, using the Newtec equipment, is working very well. Looking at Computerbuild tests in Germany should give you enough confidence.

Concerning availability in the UK, I believe in the near future a service should start, at least for Ireland I'm sure, but for the UK, I'm not sure.

Just found these replies. Took a while, but thanks guys.

El Molino - The Docsis/Tooway looks interesting, but I think the Newtec would be a better bet for me. e.g. TV reception, dish form factor, etc.

tdba - I'd just found the Irish news myself - I'll have a look at that if I don't hear from RS100
