Im in Crete Greece
I have a problem with the use of the (new) Sat AB1
I have installed many tooways on eurobird - no problem
I am using custom carrier mode on my horizon sat meter I have big trouble finding the sat and then
when in found mode the most on the q scale is 21
I contacted the UK co. support and they told me this is about what i should expect with this sat
the customer is experiencing intermittant connections and slow up-down loads
I have several more installs lined up and am now in a dilemma as i hate to install a system that does not work properly
I have contacted the UK co, by email several times with my concerns but the dont reply
i will ring tomorrow
anybody have any comments, suggestions

Hi Crete,

We also have a little bit of a problem using Horizon satellite finders to align a dish to AB1, it takes a little longer to locate the satellite but if you use a spectrum analyser it shouldn't take more than a few minutes to align the dish. Am not sure why this is, I have not contacted Horizon because we mainly use a Satlook spectrum analyzer for dish alignment, so it isn't a big issue for us.

You can download an up-to-date AB1 hex file for the Horizon satellite finder and transponder info from our website.

Please contact us direct by email if you need more info.

What are the TX and RX levels on the activation screen (before final activation, this should give you some better info).

Succes,

Frits Blomsma

Update 31-03-2011 We have informed Horizon today.
Update 03-04-2011 We received an up-to-date AB1 + EB3 hex from Horizon, it can be downloaded from our site (see link above).

Thanks for the reply
i now have 2 custom carrier files now and can find the sat although on both the q is still below 25 and any wind rain or slight dish movement and the lock is completely lost.
We have a clear line of sight.
we have no problem with the downlink but the uplink is terrible.
How can I see readings for Tx Rx db, as shown on the start up screen,  for  an install that is allready live.
We have never had any problems with Eurobird previously.

If install is already live you have to contact the provider and ask him a RX/TX diagram. Maybe the BUC is faulty ! Swap it with another system (buc) nearby. Did you try a bigger dish (120 cm), please send a photo of the install.

Tried using a unregistered new modem to peak up the rx and tx levels, (shows rx tx levels on registration page)
I can only achieve tx 5.5 to 6.5 db
Tx power of -08dBmV
the rx is 9.3
Unfortunately I can only use the dish that tooway or BW
send as I am only a sat fitter and not a retailer.
I do believe that a larger dish may be the answer.

On another install  THE NOC  performed the necessary operations and said .  now the upstream SNR is inside the nominal range:

- 7,5dB of upstream SNR with a Tx power of -14dBmV
However this customer is still complaining of slow upload speeds.

--> It looks you maybe need a bigger dish Sad

7,5dB of upstream SNR with a Tx power of -14dBmV
However this customer is still complaining of slow upload speeds.

--> In 90% of the cases above is a result of passing usage limits. Ask the user to check his Hour/Dayly/weekly or Monthly usage (online) before you spend any time on cases like this. Bentley Walker can give you all the statistics etc.

The user can also access his usage statistics online using his side ID code

Success !

Keep us informed !

No, he is no where near his daily usage as the service is  unreliable, on-off with poor upload speed. BW is looking into it.
