My unit has purchased a BW satellite with the HX 50 modem. We received the satellite, 1 Main feed support arm and 2 supports, TRIA, Universal LNB (1501882-0002).
We have been instructed to lock on the 36E HX W7 Satellite, I'm assuming this is the same as the 36E Eutel W7 Satellite as I can't find 36E HX W7 Satellite listed anywhere. Our current coordinates are: LAT: 33 degrees 23 minutes N LONG: 62 degrees 15 minutes E Using the above values we obtained the following: Elevation: 42.2 degrees Azimuth: 218 degrees (magnetic) Polarization: 34 degrees We have set the elevation using an inclinometer, the azimuth with a compass and the polarization using the dish/TRA. For the Polarization I have accounted for the 3 degrees as posted in other threads for the Eutel Satellites. I have set the TRIA to +/-37 degrees and (+/-90+/37 = +/- 53 degrees) and adjusted the EL and Azimuth. The dish reading in the back was 0 degrees I have set the TRIA to 0 degrees and adjusted the dish in the back by loosening the 4 bolts to the same setting as I did for the TRIA. Azimuth and EL adjustments were made. All Azimuth and Elevation changes made were coarse with the adjustment bolts separated and fine with the bolts by turning them small rotations at a time. We have taken signal readings using the BW modem GUI as well as a portable peakmeter. The modem reading have been between 15 and 29 never going over 29, the peakmeter readings have been between 60 and 64 never exceeding 64. Furthermore, the feed throat 5-0-5 is directly away from the feed arm (pointing to the sky) with the flange pointing torwards the feed arm (pointing to ground) This doesn't change with POL is adjusted using the dish, but does change if the POL is adjusted using the TRIA. We have tried for almost a week and even had a tech who has setup several SPAWAR satellites to assist us to no avail. The following is the information that BW gave us to enter into the Modem Config page: Satellite Parameters Sat Long: 36 degrees East Sat Freq: 19588 Symbol Rate: 10000000 LNB 22KHz Switch: Off DVB Mode: DVB S2 ACM Freq Band: KU/QPSK Receive Pol: Vertical Transmit Pol: Horizontal VSAT Parameters VSAT Long Degrees: 62 VSAT Long Min: 15 VSAT Long Hemisphere: E VSAT Lat Degrees: 33 VSAT Lat Min: 23 VSAT Lat Hemisphere: N LAN Parameters LAN 1 IP Address: 10.142.0.129 LAN 1 Subnet: 255.255.255.240 LAN 2 Address: 0.0.0.0 LAN 2 Subnet: 0.0.0.0 Management Parameters IP Gateway Address: 192.168.12.100 SDL Control Channel 224.0.1.6 DVB Program Number: 20500 DVB program number DNCC: 40000 VSAT Management Address: 13.250.1.9 Default Gateway Address: 0.0.0.0 VSAT Return Path: Inroute LNB Type: Universal Transmit Radio: 2 Watt Several SBC configuration files were given File 1: [Acquisition] AMC6NLV_1070_6k=AMC6NLV-6k,72,W,1070,H,30,0,0,0,0,H,0,3,0 HR2GTN_1250_15k=HR2GTN-15k,74,W,1250,H,30,0,0,0,0,H,0,3,0 HR2GTN_1130_5k=HR2GTN-5k,74,W,1130,H,30,0,0,0,0,H,0,3,0 AMC9NLV_990_2k=AMC9NLV-2K,83,W,990,V,30,0,0,0,0,H,0,3,0 AMC9NLV_1390_22k=AMC9NLV-22K,83,W,1390,V,30,0,0,0,0,H,1,1,0 AMC9NLV_1430_24k=AMC9NLV-24K,83,W,1430,V,30,0,0,0,0,H,1,1,0 AMC3NLV_1070_6k=AMC3NLV-6K,87,W,1070,V,10,0,0,0,0,H,1,1,0 AMC3GTN_1150_10k=AMC3-10K,87,W,1150,V,30,0,0,0,0,H,1,1,0 AMC3NLV_1330_19k=AMC3NLV-19k,87,W,1330,H,30,0,0,0,0,H,0,3,0 G28NLV_1170_11K=G28-11K,89,W,1170,V,30,0,0,0,0,H,1,1,0 G28NLV_1270_16K=G28-16K,89,W,1270,H,30,0,0,0,0,H,0,3,0 G28NLV_1321_19K=G28-19K,89,W,1321,V,15,0,0,0,0,H,0,3,0 G28NLV_1410_23K=G28-23K,89,W,1410,V,30,0,0,0,0,H,1,1,0 G11GTN_0990_2k=G11-2K,91,W,990,V,30,0,0,0,0,H,1,1,0 G11NLV_1050_5k_VerUplink=G11NLV_VerUpLink-5K,91,W,1050,H,30,0,0,0,0,V,1,1,0 G11GTN_1070_6k=G11-6K,91,W,1070,V,30,0,0,0,0,H,1,1,0 G11GTN_1410_23k=G11-23K,91,W,1410,H,30,0,0,0,0,H,0,3,0 G26GTN_1046_4K=G26-4K,93,W,1046,H,45,0,0,0,0,H,1,1,0 G26GTN_1216.5_14k=G26-14K,93,W,1216.5,H,21.5,0,0,0,0,H,0,3,0 G26GTN_1433.5_28k=G26-28K,93,W,1433.5,H,21.5,0,0,0,0,H,0,3,0 G3CGTN_1311_17k=G3C-17K,95,W,1311,V,21.5,0,0,0,0,H,1,1,0 G16GTN_970_1k=G16-1K,99,W,970,H,30,0,0,0,0,H,0,3,0 G16GTN_1210_13k_VerUplink=G16-13K,99,W,1210,H,30,0,0,0,0,V,1,1,0 G16GTN_1230_14k=G16-14K,99,W,1230,V,30,0,0,0,0,H,1,1,0 G16GTN_1350_20k=G16-20K,99,W,1350,V,30,0,0,0,0,H,1,1,0 SM6NLV_1250_15k=SatMex6-15K,113,W,1250,H,33,0,0,0,0,H,0,3,0 SM5GTN_990_2k=SatMex5-2K,117,W,990,V,30,0,0,0,0,H,1,1,0 SM5GTN_1050_5k=SatMex5-5K,117,W,1050,H,33,0,0,0,0,H,0,3,0 SM5GTN_1070_6k=SatMex5-6K,117,W,1070,V,30,0,0,0,0,H,1,1,0 SM5GTN_1170_11k=SatMex5-11K,117,W,1170,H,30,0,0,0,0,H,0,3,0 SM5GTN_1270_16k=SatMex5-16K,117,W,1270,V,30,0,0,0,0,H,1,1,0 G10RGTN_1272_16k_VerUplink=G10R-16K,123,W,1272,H,10,0,0,0,0,V,1,1,0 HR1NLV_1110_8k=Horizons1-8K,127,W,1110,V,30,0,0,0,0,H,0,3,0 HR1GTN_1270_16k=Horizons1-16K,127,W,1270,V,30,0,0,0,0,H,1,1,0 HR1GTN_1390_22k=Horizons1-22K,127,W,1390,V,30,0,0,0,0,H,1,1,0 [Servers] SAN_and_PIN_Registration=hnsacs2.direcpc.com/webauto/scripts/shannon002 SiteID_Registration=socovar1acs.direcpc.com/webauto/scripts/PRE_enterprise [TransmitRadioList] 1029258-0001=Chinnon,1,0,0,Ku 1032009-0003=ISIS,1,0,0,Ku 1032009-0004=ISIS,1,0,1,Ku 1032552-0002=ISIS,1,0,0,Ku 1032552-0008=ISIS,1,0,0,Ku 1032552-0014=ISIS,1,0,0,Ku 1032552-0020=ISIS,1,0,0,Ku 1033505-0001=ISIS,2,0,1,Ku 1033506-0002=ISIS,2,0,0,Ku 1033506-0008=ISIS,2,0,0,Ku 1035007-0001=OSIRIS,1,0,1,Ku 1035007-0002=OSIRIS,1,0,1,Ku 1035008-0002=OSIRIS,1,0,1,Ku 1035008-0008=OSIRIS,1,0,1,Ku 1035008-0020=OSIRIS,1,0,1,Ku 1035817-0001=OSIRIS,2,1,1,Ku 1035818-0002=OSIRIS,2,1,1,Ku 1035818-0008=OSIRIS,2,1,1,Ku 1500172-0101=ANUBIS,1,1,1,Ku 1500172-1101=ANUBIS,1,1,1,Ku 1500172-2101=ANUBIS,1,1,1,Ku 1500192-0111=ANUBIS,1,1,1,Ku 1500172-0202=ANUBIS,2,1,1,Ku 1500192-0221=ANUBIS,2,1,1,Ku 1037099-0001=ANUBIS,2,1,1,Ku [RxLnbList] Default=9.75,9.75 Pure=10.75,9.75 Invacom=10.6,9.75 TG_1024572-0001=10,10 TG_1024572-0002=10.75,10.75 TG_1024572-0003=11.3,11.3 [LinearRadioPowerRestrictions] Radio_1W=0,128; Radio_2W=0,256; Radio_4W=0,256; Radio_5W=0,512; Radio_8W=0,1024; [LinearTransmitRadioList] NJRC_4W_Ku=NJRC,NJT5017,4,Ku,1,0,36,56,24 NJRC_5W_C=NJRC,NJT5669,5,C,1,0,37,58,24 NJRC_8W_Ku=NJRC,NJT5018,8,Ku,1,0,39,59,49 [General] SessionMsgTimeout=2 UseSecureHttp=1 128KRestriction=0 128KBackdownValue=30 showPowerMsg=1 Platform=DWAY_ALL_DOMESTIC Version=NAD080808 [Pointing] SAT_OTA_Frequency=0 SAT_Rx_LNB_Name=Default SAT_LO_On=9.75 SAT_LO_Off=9.75 SAT_Network_Ref_LO=97500 |

I have read on othe posts that these files were intended for satellites at the 72W to 127W orientation but I'm not sure if that is relevant here or of concern even though our intended satellite is at the 36E. After a week of trying to lock on the bird using every possible configuration file, EL, Azimuth, Polarization technique and receiving help from the "Pro" we haven't had any success. Any assistance that could be rendered would be greatly appreciated. Thanks, John |

Only the 3rd SBC file contains the LNB type "Universal" so use that file. Only then will then see the word "Universal" as an option in the LNB pull down menu.
If you are to receive Vertical name polarisation and have +37 deg clockwise adjustment applied then.. while standing behind the dish and looking forward towards the satellite in the sky, observe the angle of the Universal LNB F connector plug. It should be aimed at about the 1 o'clock position (i.e. up to the right, +37 deg clockwise from straight up). This angle may be achieved either by turning the dish itself 90 deg anticlockwise (so the cable is straight up/down for true vertical polarisation) and then adjusting the dish an amount of +37 deg clockwise. (or following the Bentley Walker procedure of turning the feed itself so that the cable is directly upwards (true vertical) and then adjusting +37 deg clockwise (while facing towards the satellite in the sky). If you have the elevation angle correct and a reading of 29 then you have found the wanted satellite. Your problem is to do with polarisation or configuration set up (particularly LNB type, 22KHz tone, tuning, symbol rate). Best regards, Eric. |

Good morning sir,
I have emailed you directly concerning your issues, Eric has correctly pointed out the use of Universal although that particualr file shows a default LNB freq of 10.6 which is incorrect. I have sent you an updated file which is proven. Please could you kindly reply with a screenshot of your modems configuration so that we may review it before focusing on the sphysical aspects of the installation (alignment etc). Regards, James - Bentley Walker |

James,
I believe that you sent a new configuration file to my counterpart Tywan Jones yesterday. We uploaded the new config file into the modem and was only able to recieve a signal of 29 according to the modem. In order to take the modem out of the equation just in case the config file wasn't allowing us to see the appropriate satellite we used the Peakmeter. The best signal that we were able to obtain was 67 dBuV, never changing from a Searching to a Found display. This effort included the enlisted help of two VSAT experts who after a several hours of trying to point the dish couldn't obtain any better results. We called BW tech support yesterday and they gave us a number of a technician who resides on Shindand (our location) who we are attempting to contact. If we can locate him and and he is unsuccessful I will continue to troubleshoot and submit screen shots for you analysis. Thanks for your assistance. Eric, Thanks for all of your support. I'm sure that there are several other Soldiers who are truly appreciative of all your support. I have read almost every thread pertaining to satellite issues in the Middle East and have learned far more than what I thought was possible. I truly appreciate your selfless dedication to helping those in need of satellite advice. I would probably have given up on attempting to make this dish work within the first hour, but the plethora of information that you have provided had me out there for hours on end with a feeling that if I just tried the newest bit of information I learned that I would get it working. I will ceratinly post on here what the final readings (AZ, EL, POL (dish/TRIA)) are and what config file worked for us so that others in the same situation may learn from our tribulations. Again thanks for everyone's help so far. John |

John,
I think it best that we enter into a support dialouge rather than check back on the forum for updates, we need toverify your modem settings and the meter selection you used to try and peak, alongside this picture of the installation would be really useful if you could oblige. Thank you for your continued patience and perseverance with this, I am sure once we are in posession of all the facts and figures then we can best advise on the next step. I have sent an email requesting the information and look forward to hearing from you. |
