Satellite map of Ukraine with latitude/longitude and dish pointing calculator

Choose Sat orbit longitude

You must select the satellite first and then drag the map.  If you change satellite, drag the map again nearby the original point till the satellite pointing angles calculate again. Please note that I have updated the list of satellite on 28 Feb 2022.  There are a few changes every month or so, with satellite moves and some old ones being retired and some newly launched ones being added.

Instructions for people in Ukraine

Choose the satellite you want to point at using the pull down menu box under the Ukraine map. Put your mouse cursor near your location and hold down and drag the map.

The Ukraine map image will move so that the chosen point is in the centre. The latitude and longitude of the dot at the centre of the map is then displayed below the map, together with your satellite dish pointing angles: azimuth, elevation and polarisation.   To get close to your site, click on the plus sign + in the array of navigation boxes at the side of the map.  The map scale will change so that you can home in accurately on your location.  Repeat as necessary.

Satellite dish pointing (Azimuth and elevation i.e. up/down and sideways adjustment mount):  Set the dish elevation (up/down) angle first. There may be a scale on the bracket at the back. An inclinometer may be of use if you know the dish elevation offset angle.    Set the feed LNBF rotation polarisation angle also. There may be polarisation rotation scale on the LNBF feed horn throat. Facing the satellite, clockwise polarisation is positive, negative is anticlockwise. For the azimuth angle (sideways) use a magnetic compass and swing the dish boldly sideways to find the satellite on the first swing.  Then spend half an hour peaking up.  Peaking up is really important for long term service quality and minimum outage time during rain fades.

The Ukraine map above comes with several cities and towns already marked e.g: Luiv, Rivne, Kyiv, Chernivtsi, Sumy, Karkiv, Lugansk, Donetsk, Dnipro, Melitopol, Odessa and Chernivtsi.  Chernobyl is near Pripyat to the north of Kyiv where the river cross into Belarus.  At the top, choose street map or satellite view of Ukraine. As you expand the scale to look more closely, you will need to identify the towns and roads yourself from local knowledge.  The starting satellite position shown is Eutelsat at 13 deg east geostationary orbit longitude position. Choose your required satellite position. For details of all satellites in the Indian Ocean Region s see Lyngsat Asia.

Safety Warning:  The dish pointing angle results of this page may be wrong.  The latitude and longitude and accuracy are not intended for military purposes, or the navigation of aircraft, ship or other vehicle purposes.   Magnetic azimuth bearings are approximate and based on my earth's magnetic field model.  Use is therefore entirely at your own risk.  Use your common sense.  Take care with satellite dish pointing to not injure others by dropping tools or hurting yourself by falling down.
