KA-SAT is due for launch sometime in 2010. It has been designed with many small spot beams covering all Europe plus four, slightly larger, spots covering parts of the Middle East. It may be that the larger diameter coverages simply refer to the use of larger antennas by the customers. Only the far north of Iraq is presently shown to be covered in the beam map below.

Does anyone know if this is the final beam configuration ?
For the time being there are plenty of Ku band beams for Iraq, see Satellite Broadband for Middle East
