Launched 27 January 2016 on Ariane 5 from Guiana Space Center.
It will serve the Americas, North Atlantic and Caribbean from 50 west orbit position( i.e. 310 deg east). Intended for carrier-grade telecom and enterprise inter-connectivity plus satellite internet service for maritime and aircraft.
The satellite has multiple Ku-band spot beams which may be adjusted or merged to suit the traffic demand.
The next is Intelsat 33e, due for launch later in 2016, to provide coverage of Africa, Europe and Asia from about 60 deg east orbit position (my guess). A further 5 of these EpicNG satellites are planned.
