Shared satellite broadband service (DVB-RCS service)

Telenor's DVB-RCS service provides two-way broadband communications to and from fixed and transportable land-based installations. It provides broadband service to areas where cable connections are unavailable or satellite service is the preferred transmission technology. Telenor DVB-RCS is a robust service that supports a wide variety of applications ideally suited for business enterprise users, small office/home office (SOHO) users and community Internet Service Providers (ISPs).

System network

Telenor DVB-RCS service is powered by Terralink, Telenor's exclusive IP networking platform. Through hubs installed at Telenor's teleport locations, the Shared Access service can interface directly to the Internet backbone of a leased line terminating at a designated user facility. A dedicated leased line is ideal for customers concerned about communications security. For extra protection, encryptions systems can be added to meet specific requirements for secure communications.

End-user equipment

The equipment used with this service consists of a small outdoor antenna and a small indoor terminal. Terminals compatible with Telenor Shared Access service is manufactured by Nera and other SatLabs interoperability approved manufacturers, such as Newtec and EMS. A typical interface used to connect with a users person computer is 10/100 Base-T Ethernet with and RJ-45 connector.

Applications

Telenor DVB-RCS service supports Internet access, e-mail and VPN. Future enhancements to Terralink will enable advanced applications including: IP video-conferencing applications. Voice Over Internet Protocol (VoIP), streaming video, Web TV and others.  These applications enable contemporary communication demands such as e-learning, e-commerce, telemedicine, rural communications and financial transactions for users working in universities, corporations, small home offices in both front and back-office environments. Telenor DVB-RCS service is scalable enough to meet most broadband application requirements.
